The history of Fridtjof Nansen Secondary School 1902 - 2024

1902Establishment of a secondary school (forerunner of the Gymnasium), continuation of the Rektoratsschule as the "Städtische Höhere Mädchenschule" (predecessor of the Fridtjof-Nansen-Realschule) It comprises years 4 - 9 with a total of 26 girls in two classrooms, principal: Arnold Hasenow
1924Maria Hilgefort becomes principal
1928Dr. Eduard Sattler becomes principal
1933
Recognition of the girls' school as a fully developed secondary school with the "Mittlere Reife" qualification
1939Inauguration of the new school building on Eschweg (red section)
1940 
Admission of boys is approved. The school is given the name "Municipal secondary school for boys and girls"
1949Anna Heidemeyer becomes principal
The post of deputy principal is created for the first time. Rudolf Wienecke becomes deputy principal.
1950
The school has two classes, separated into boys' and girls' classes. 445 pupils are taught by 13 teachers
1951Renamed "Municipal secondary school"

Extension building is finished (green part)

Due to the founding of the comprehensive school in Gronau and the secondary school in Epe, the secondary school may only be continued with three pupils by the school authorities.
An additional class (preparatory class) is set up for children with no knowledge of German.
2015Due to the high enrollment numbers and the additions in year 6, years 5 and 6 will have four classes.
 Due to the large number of school-age children with no knowledge of German living in Gronau, two additional preparatory classes are being set up.
2016The secondary school in Epe no longer has a principal. Ms. Poll-Wolbeck will become principal from 19.01.2016 and Ms. Bärmann will become deputy principal. Both schools now share one principal.
 During an impressive 2-hour ceremony in the Bürgerhalle on July 14, our school is awarded the quality label 'School without Racism - School with Courage'.
2017Ceremonial farewell of Mrs. Poll-Wolbeck as principal. Mrs. Preuß becomes the new principal.
 The Carl-Sonnenschein-Realschule Gronau-Epe will close in July. From the 2017/18 school year, the pupils of the remaining 9th and 10th classes (3 classes each) will find their new school home at Fridtjof-Nansen-Realschule.
2018219 students (8 classes) receive their graduation certificates on June 29.
2019Start of planning for extensive construction measures and renovation of the old building. The enrolment figures are continuously higher than the approved three classes. Again, 8 year groups are dismissed.
2020The coronavirus pandemic leads to months of school closures. In the meantime, the school is completely reorganizing itself digitally and can provide the timetable in distance learning from the first day of closure. Changing government guidelines require constant adaptation to these and the pandemic situation.
2021Christian Bauer retires and Katrin Winkelhaus becomes the new 2nd vice principal. The digital class register is introduced.
Appointment as Euregio profile school
2022Josefa Bärmann retires and Steffen Smit becomes the new 1st vice principal of the Realschule. The application to form more classes in year 5 is approved by the Münster district government.
2023Once again, a fourth entry class can be formed with the approval of the Münster district government.

2024

The Realschule starts the school year with three classes despite the unchanged high number of applications.
