Fridtjof-Nansen-Realschule offers a special course once a week to support pupils with dyscalculia (dyscalculia). Discovering and dealing with dyscalculia can be a challenge for families. It is therefore important to us to offer every child the best possible support to develop mathematical skills and to act confidently in math lessons.
Overview of the dyscalculia course:
- Attention: The math teachers keep an eye on each individual child and make recommendations for a diagnosis for children they notice to have dyscalculia. Of course, parents or guardians or the child themselves can also request a diagnosis at our school after a brief consultation with the teacher.
- Individual diagnosis: Every child is unique. Our course begins with an individual diagnosis in a one-to-one discussion with a teacher trained in this area in order to identify the specific difficulties.
- Invitation to the course: After the diagnosis, an invitation to the dyscalculia course is issued if dyscalculia has been identified. The decision to participate is made by the parents or guardians. It is valid for at least one semester.
- Small group lessons: Lessons take place in small groups to ensure individual attention and a learning environment tailored to the needs of each child.
- Contents: During the course, we work on specific weak points of each individual child so that they gain more confidence. Support with current topics is also guaranteed so that there is less frustration with homework and cooperation in math lessons is possible.
- Development: The developmental status of each child is determined at the beginning of a new school year in order to document progress and possibly make a recommendation for renewed participation in the course.
We are convinced that with targeted support and a positive learning environment, every child can develop their mathematical skills and experience success despite their difficulties.
